Film and Video Projects

Neil McGrory  has extensive experience in film and video production.

Since 2020 much of the focus has moved onto the production of online material. Contracts have included the production of Inishowen Traditional Music Project’s Virtual Summer Concert Series 2020 (production of nine online concerts), Cairdeas na bhFidliérí October Festival 2020 (Online), editing and compiling of material for three online concerts for Seamus Grant Weekend 2020, Clonmany.

In 2020 he worked as Irish Co-ordinator and Producer for O’Flaherty’s Irish Retreat. This is a major US based event and the contract involved producing music performances for online distribution, co-ordinating the production of over 40 hours of online lessons for participants and shooting material for an upcoming documentary film on the event.

In 2021 he produced the Irish Stream for North Texas Irish Festival. This involved filming and recording live performances from Altan, ZoDoMo, Dermot Byrne and Steve Cooney along with a live streamed six hour show from Donegal with Niall Hanna, Kevin Meehan and others.

In 2022 he produced a series of documentary films for Inishowen Rivers Trust. This was an environmental awareness project documenting flood remediation measures in the Clonmany area.

He also was contracted by Donegal County Council, to produce four short films for the Colmcille 1500 project. These bi-lingual films are part of the Slí Colmcille website.

In January 2022 he recorded and edited ‘Get Beethoven’ by Paul Cassidy (the Brodsky Quartet) which was released as an audio book on the Audible platform.

He recently worked with director Bob Gallagher, on the Abair series of films, recording location audio in France, Scotland and Wales, and producing the audio mix for a series of music documentaries commissioned for St Patricks Festival TV in Dublin.

He has also produced two projects for ITMP, Inishowen Trad Orchestra and Trad Meets Classical at the Solstice a collaborative project with the Brodsky Quartet.

He also recorded and mixed the sound for the film ‘It’s a Fine Thing To Sing”: Songs and Singers from the Inishowen Peninsula. This film features YeVagabonds, The Henry Girls and Ian Lynch (Lankum) and traces how traditional songs have been re-interpreted by modern artists. The film was a combination of new footage and archive audio and film. It was recently shown at the Dun Laoghaire Folk Festival and Disappear Here Film Festival.

He has just completed an education production for the Waters Forum which is an educational resource for communities seeking to develop a conservation strategy for a river catchment. This involved location filming and recording, script development and commissioning original music.
